Take a Break for Black Friday
For the last seven years, we’ve been closing our stores and website on Black Friday.
As a small company dedicated to slow fashion and a circular economy, we’ve never been comfortable with the pressure to sell as much as possible, as fast as possible. To us, Black Friday is too closely associated with the overconsumption that’s straining our planet and generating mountains of textile waste around the world. And as you’ve probably noticed, it’s not just one day anymore—the frenzy of Black Friday is now flooding all of our Inboxes for multiple weeks.
So in keeping with ANIÁN tradition, we’re giving our staff an extra day off to spend time with friends or family, get into nature, or just take a well-earned break before the holiday season. And as we navigate the many currents of the apparel industry, it’s a chance for us to refocus on why we started ANIÁN in the first place.
We get it that not everyone thinks the same way—Black Friday is important to many independent brands, and we’re proud to be allied with other businesses working for positive change, whether they take part in Black Friday or not. We also know that Black Friday can be an opportunity to save money on gifts or essential goods, and we’ll continue to offer our seasonal sales so our community members can find ANIÁN clothing at a lower price.
Thanks to our community, ANIÁN has grown substantially in recent years, but the hustle around Black Friday still isn’t quite right for us. We’re sticking with making long-lasting products out of post-consumer recycled materials, and doing business in a slow but steady way. It works for us, and hopefully for you too—and since many of you are still wearing shirts you bought from our original off-grid shack on Discovery Street back in the 20-teens, we think we’re on the right track.
We’ll be back on Saturday—see you then.
